New to me 4.3 volvo, couple questions...

I'm about to take delivery of a 19ft 2001 Larson bow rider with a 4.3 volvo with vortec heads. During the test ride, I was very impressed with the performance. Even when we pulled his kid up on a wake board, it didn't struggle very much at all. Top speed was indicating about 45 mph once trimmed.

Now, the thing diesels just a little when shut off. Other than that, it ran great. When I get the boat, I want to give it a full tune up. Timing is the main culprit of dieseling, right? Does this mean I may be down on power?

I also want to start getting the parts together for a 4bbl upgrade. I've been reading and searching and searching and reading. A lot of threads I found are from 05 or 06. Are people still using the same parts?

From what I gather, I'm going to need:
Edlebrock performer 600cfm carb
4bbl mid rise intake manifold
4bbl spark arrester
Throttle cable bracket???

I'm thinking I'm going to try to find this stuff used to save some money. If I can that is.

Can someone quickly confirm what I need? With part numbers? I know I also read a few posts where people accidently got the wrong intake manifold and were disappointed with the performance they lost. I don't want to do that.

Thanks,
Steve

Edelbrock 1409 carb (or other 4 barrel of similar size).
Edelbrock 2114 intake manifold (or the OEM).
Larger spark arrester.
New throttle cable bracket.
Edelbrock 1485 carb calibration kit and recommend getting the strip kit.

The intake manifold problems are because of the RPM range for ideal power. The 2114 is 1500-6000 or something, the other is quite a bit higher.

I just finished this upgrade and am taking for a water test today. Had some slight problems with the valve covers not fitting well, but not too much else. Hogged my own throttle bracket out of a piece of aluminum.

You will also have to redo the fuel line to the carb and most likely your PCV valves/hoses.

That's exactly what I needed, thanks.

Let me know how it goes today!

Take a closer look at your intake manifold, Volvo often uses a 4v intake and simply puts a adapter plate over the top of the manifold creating a 2v manifold ..

I have a 2002 4.3 GL-A VP that deisels when shut off as well. Is timing the sole reason for this? Can changing spark plugs also help? Mine doesn't do it all the time, just when it's been run hard and then shut down.

I've been thinking about it, what would timing or plugs have to do with it? Spark is off when you turn the key, right?

I've heard carbon deposits or low octane.
