Hi i own a 90 650ts i just bought this and its been sitting for sometime.. I actually got it to run however it needs some work that i've been doing

1 How do the water cooling system work?? like is there a rubber impeller found on outboards,I couldnt find any on the engine??? I see the hose to run it on ground, which i used today but how will i know if its pumping water?

2 How would i know if the oil injection system is working??? Right now i'm running it on 40:1 just to make sure

3 On the crankcase i see a knob, similiar to a dipstick near the crankcase..what if any oil belongs in there, also how do i change it??
also is there any ideas on how to bring it back to life?? the engine sat in a few inches of water for a while and i want to make sure i change the oil if necessary thanks Erik

1. the cooling system works off the jet pump. as the water gets pushed through the reducer cone there is a fitting thats on the pump. some are cast in the pump soem are a threaded 90* fitting. that fitting has a hose that goes to either the block or the exhaust manifold ( depending on design) then the water goes through the cooling passages. Some will come out from the head ( if equipped) or it all gets routed through the exhaust to cool off the exhaust rubber couplers. there is no real impeller to speak of. the pump itself is what sends the water through the motor. That is why its important not to leave the ski with the pump in sand because the sand may clog the hose and then you get no water cooling the motor. Sand tends to lay in pockets and water wont push it out. Sort of liek watching running water. it takes some of the loose sand from the top but sand sits on the bottom of the river.

you dont want to run oil injection and premix at the same time. if you want to see if the oil injection is working take off the air intake put the ski in the flush kit and start it. you should see oil dripping from the oil lines at the carb. also your oil tank would drop in level as you use the ski. personally i would get rid of the oil injection since you dont seem to mind premixing.

The knob as you see it its a crank case drain. What its there for is if you submerge the ski and get water in the motor. you pull up on the knob and on the side of the case ( exhaust side) there is a plastic piece with a plunger. the plunger lifts up and lets the water drain out of the cases. pretty crappy design. usually they either get stuck closed or you use them once and they stay stuck open. They make block off plates for that.

When you say the motor sat in a few inches of water do you mean just water in the hull or water INSIDE the motor? if its jsut in the hull no big deal 9 although you may get some funky smell) if its in the engine well that depends on how long water sat there does the motor turn over smoothly etc.
Check your compression. you want abotu 150-160 PSI on both cylinders. Some say 10% difference is ok I prefer 5% but either way if youre within 10% youre ok.
there is no oil changing on the ski. jsut the 2 stroke oil. there are a couple of grease fittings you want to lube up. one at the coupler, sometimes some of the pumps have them on the end cone some have one going to the starter bendix tip. the one you want to grease up good are the pump ( if you have it) but the driveshaft support carrier you definately want to pump grease in that

Re: New to jet ski some simple questions..

thanks for the info the engine actual sat in water for a long time like a year it didn't get into the carbs from what i can see.. I did run it and it ran and died but i had it running for about a minute with the hose... The compression is 125 low and the other one is 175 so i don't know if it will run on the water but after i clean the carbs i'm going to try..any suggestions would be helpful thanks for everything Erik

you may have a stuck set of rings on the cylinder with low compression. Throw a teaspoon of penetration oil or Wd 40 in the cylinder and let it soak in.
