I bought a 1977 55 hp Evinrude tonight. I paid $100 for it. I was not able to hear it run, but I did the best inspection I know how. It seems to be a good motor, from what I can tell. I need the controls and the wiring harness for it, though. Anybody know how difficult it will be to find these items? Can anyone tell me if these motors have a good "reputation"? Thanks

Hey there, Check out AIM Outboard recyclers in Carp, Ontario.
They're just outside Ottawa. Prices are very good and they will ship anywhere.
They have everything you need.

Oh yeah, I also need a prop. What diameter and pitch do I need?

Johnson/evinrude are like the chevy's of the outboard world. They are good dependable motors and parts are redily available. As far as prop's, google prop wizzard and use it, this will give you a starting range of prop sizes you can use.
