Whatzzz up guys, I'm in the process of updating a 95 201 pro xl. Replaced all gauges and my trim gauge is working, but it's way off. When the gauge shows that the motor is all the way down, there is still about 2" of the trim cylinder rods left to go. In other words when the gauge shows I have bottom out, I still have a long way to go before it actually bottom out. I understand this is a gauge and not the accuracy of a instrument, but it should be a little closer than this. Anyone have a idea??? Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Did the old gauge read differently? The trim sender may need adjusted to match the gauge.

Or run the trim all the way down and see where the gauge is. It may not be off as much as you think.

Assuming you have a MerCruiser outdrive, lower the unit all the way down, loosen the adjustment screws (2) on the trim sender (stbd side of outdrive) and adjust until the needle points where you want it. Tighten the screws and operate the trim through it's range, checking to ensure the needle reads accurately and the drive moves freely throughout.

The gauge sender is only designed to work in the "trim" range. It's not designed to work in the "tilt" range. So you need to adjust the sender lever so that it starts working only when in the trim part of the range only. The gauge should quit working as soon as the engine starts being raised by the tilt (single ram) of the mechanism.
