New Starter for 5.0 FL OMC

I have a 1994 Chris Craft 197 Concept. It has a 5.0(LS) OMC engine (although it says Cobra on the engine head). I need to replace the starter.<br /><br />3 questions:<br /><br />1) What type of starter do I need, specifically?<br />2) What would you say a reasonalbe price for this starter would be?<br />3) Is this something I could replace myself or someone who has replaced starters on cars could replace?<br /><br />Thanks for any help you can provide!

If you are attempting to work on your boat without a manual, then you are missing specific proceedures and steps that would outline the testing first, then the removal and replacement of your starter along with any good hints.<br /><br />A new marine starter is something that you can call around for in the yellow pages under marina's or marine engine parts/repairs.<br />Some of these shops can do a bench test on the starter in their shop to see if this is where your problem is. I would also ask for the price of having your starter "REBUILT" and of coarse what the warranty is. <br />That is how you can price a starter, unless you find a new one online, just don't forget about the shipping.
