They look nice- keep 'em waxed or sprayed so they don't rust. Also, run those Carlisles for about a year and then replace them- I have read too many bad Carlisle stories on this and other boards.

I love the color of that boat- very striking.

Nice ride- that's a head turner.

UFM82

I agree with previous poster...those chromes look real nice when new, but those chrome wheels are very prone to rust. That's why many good boat trailer mfrs are now putting the aluminums on...they'll look the same for the life of the trailer and will not show rust. Keep those suckers waxed well or they'll look awful in a few short years with the frequent dunking.

They look real nice with your rig. The chrome will hold up fine on a fresh water rig that is garaged.

Are those rivets I see towards the outside of the rim?

They're fake...little black plastic plugs set there for show. Mine has the same. Incidentally, I have almost the same wheels, about 6 years old, freshwater only and always garaged. I never maintained them for appearance and are now coated in rust...especially thick around the lug nuts and center hub, where all the chrome is now simply gone. That's why I recommend some maintenance if he wants them to stay pretty.

Damn, yet another spot for the water to get into and for the rot to set in. As well as all the open ended welds and the small gap behind where the wheel nuts mount.
At least with aluminium you can simply spray on a deoxidiser and the crap washes off.

High maintenance wheels I'm afraid.

thanks for the responses i really like them. I kept the aluminums as well so if they do start to rust even with maintance, ill just put those back on. also, about cleaning and maintaining them...thats fine by me because i will be cleaning my boat and trailer anyway whenever it comes out of the water. whats an extra 5-10 minutes for the rims when your doing the whole rig anyways? also there will never be any saltwater use and 95% of the time i will be using it on only 1 lake on which my cabin is and it is one of the cleanest lakes around.

Enjoy...awareness is 90% of the battle. I'm sure yours will look much better than mine for a very long time if you follow through with your efforts to keep them clean and dry. I can tell by your photos that you take great pride in your rig's appearances. I'm terrible about that stuff. Everything I own is mechanically maintained to the max, but generally filthy. For instance, I wash my truck annually whether it needs it or not...I even waxed it once a few years ago! And the boat gets cleaned annually as part of winterization, but NEVER the trailer. After all, it gets dunked all the time, so why wash it!? So my wheels are now rusty. But they're still round! That's all that matters to me.

i like to have my stuff look as good as possible and as i see it, the trailer is just as important as the boat because its painted. if it chips at all it will begin to rust, and i dont want to have a rusted trailer within a few years. alittle maintainance here and there goes a long way and will only pay off in the long run.

I don't disagree with you one bit. I'm just a lazy old guy. All my stuff is chipped, scratched, rusted, and encrusted in various gack. And you don't even wanna know about the condition of my speedo...

Your setup looks very nice....enjoy!

That looks really good-- I like the boat too! :)
Are we talking about a special type of wax here or will typical car wax work? I too have chrome wheels which I plan on repeatedly dunking in saltwater. The lugnuts are already pretty rusted, not even sure if they were chrome before I bought the thing.... :(

Chrome and salt water not so good. If you haven't already, I would undo the lugnuts just to make sure they will un-screw.

Just spray everything with CRC or WD40. Keep it off rubber bits and it will seal almost everything.

Yeah, I've had the same chrome wheels on the last two boats (trailers). Both got rusty after about four years. They look great when clean and maybe you can keep up with them, but I am easily as anal as you and I'll buy your Aluminum's right now :D . If I remember there are some pictures of those as well around here somewhere? Still love the boat!!!

thanks...it seems that i cant get enough compliments on the boat...almost everywhere i go someone says something. i have the aluminums as spares so if these do end up getting rusty i can just switch them back over.
