Re: New RI State record striper
How times change! When I was a kid in the 50s/60s, I spent my summers in RI with my grandfather. In those days, catching a 40 - 50 pound striper wasn't all that unusual. By the 70's, pollution in the Connecticut rivers and the Hudson had become bad enough that spawning was severly affected, and the stripers became noticeably more difficult to catch at all. By that time, everyone became more interested in catching bluefish, simply because there were enough of them around to get something.
I'm very glad to hear that things are getting back to normal now that environmental controls have cleaned the rivers up.
