Just an FYI for my Illinois friends out there. New state record muskie from Lake Shelbyville.
38 lbs/50.75 inches.
Caught from the bank while fishing for walleyes on 14 lb Stren. 45 minutes to bag it.

No, not by me.

Re: New record

Here that 495v you went all the way into the North Woods to catch ole gator eyes when you got them in your own backyard. Congrats on the record. They sure are a must if you have never fished for them. In Minn. I think its 52 or 54 inches. I still say anything over three foot is going to be fun.

Yeah, I hear that. Fished Shelbyville a few times, very tough. There's always alot of boat traffic and tournaments and such. This lake is about 3hrs from my place. I was actually planning on going down in Sept. some time. There's another good Musky lake near-by called Shabbona. These two lakes have been jockeying back and forth for the state record for the last few years. Problem is it's a 10horsey limit and I'm packing 300 with out any kicker. I just can't handle puttsing around with my electric while 14ft john boats are flying past me. Hope your feeling well; heard about the ticker problems. Hang tough, all will work out. God works in mysterious ways!

Say, fellow muskyphiles.

Don't despair. Musky fishing is meant to be done in solitude with nothing and nobody crowding you except maybe black flies and mosquitoes.

It's too bad that the "10 and under" rules don't help that much there. Maybe there needs to be a few "no gasoline" lakes to allow serious fishermen a place to fish in peace.

495V, I suppose 300 horses come in useful some places, but I think you need a FISHING boat with a putt putt on it to get the most enjoyment from peace and quiet fishing holes. :)

I'm with you JB. It wouldn't feel right if you weren't swatting a few ctitters between cast when fishing for ole Gator Eyes. Sounds like 495v needs to go to LOTW with that bad bear of his. He sure could get their in a quick with that awesome pull he has. I guess the older you get the less pull you need. Up north you can have all of that and hardly see anyone unless you want to.
