New prop won't fit, hitting trim tab. Ok to replace tab with flat anode?

I have an 04 Bayliner 195BR with 3.0L Mercruiser/Alpha 1. I'm trying to install a new prop but I'm running into a problem where the blades of the new prop are hitting the trim tab/anode. Both the new prop and the old prop are 14.25'' x 21. I don't know if the old prop was original because I bought the boat used.

I called up the manufacturer (Turning Point Propellers) of the new prop and they recommended I either purchase a "new style" flat anode, or take a hacksaw and cut away part of the zinc to clear a path for the propeller. But my understanding is that the trim tab performs a necessary function that has to do with steering and counteracts some effect by the propeller so I'm hesitant to mess with it. Any advice?

Thanks

Well what do you know... right after I post my question iboats forum links to several other posts that ask the same exact thing (my searching skills must be pretty poor because I did try searching earlier). Anyway, it looks like filing down the trim tab is Ok, or I can replace it with a "high performance" trim tab. The flat anode is not an option because I don't have power steering.
