I purchased a new 4 blade 19 inch prop to replace a spun 3blade/17 inch. I went to install it and and it fits the spline like it's supposed to but it hits the anode. Is there any other purpose of the anode other than being the sacrifficial self it is? Does it provide some steering assistance? I found a replacement that's called a "racing anode" that will provide enough clearence. It is about half the size of the original and I was wondering if this will cause me problems.

What drive and steering? The ones with the fin are if you DON'T have power steering. The flat ones are standard on all Mercs with power steering.
