I came a long way today!

I bought a tach and a new prop... yipeeee.
but the dealer let me try a prop that is a bit over pitched. 21 pitch cupped (vortex 12 3/4x21RH) my WOT is @ 4800 now... how far should I pitch down to have my 120 hp 'rude @ around 5500/5800? it's a GT-160 with a '88 120 hp 'rude.

hope to be getting at a good WOT any day now...
thx for your time!

Re: New Prop! but 4800rpm...

Is that a Glastron GT160? Very cool ride.

The 21 should be about right. Lets make sure your tach is right (other post) and the motor is hitting on all 8. Well, 4 anyway.

You will end up playing with the motor height. A lot. If its a Glastron or a Glastron Carleson (better yet) you'll need a jackplate. The only decision is whether you want a manual one or a hydraulic one.

Very cool rig!

Re: New Prop! but 4800rpm...

ok tach is brand new... so should be right. connected to the remote with($) omc cable.
if I set the tach to the recomended 6P Alternator switch I get a 4800 rpm reading maybe a bit more.

I did have a few bugs in the tach at WOT as I was reaching WOT the needle sometimes dropped... is that because of the hitting factor?(hitting on all 8?) The engine doesnt sound so sweet at total WOT so I keep it like 150/250 rpms under total WOT... and then the bug doesn't exist...

And yeah I love the GT-160! very nice boat. thx
