Hey, Daddy.

What use do you have planned? What is most important to you in an engine?

Do you have a budget?

The largest engine you should install is what the boat is rated for (135 HP). The minimum is generally 70% of rated which would be 90 but 100 HP would be a better choice. That would provide acceptable performance with light to moderate loads. If you plan on going out heavy -- there is only choice and thats 135 HP. My suggestion would be looking for a motor in the 100 - 135 HP range. Buy the best and biggest your budget allows.

budget, cheap as i can, all round use boat, ski, cruise, fish. i may end up keeping this one. it was rated for a 135 in 79, (we had a 69 Cobia w/ 115 johnny, that was great), if i'm correct, the newer engine have a greater power than the oldies. these boats are the same hulls. some say the Bonita's were 2nds off the Cobia line.

I think the best Motor for your rig would be a Mid-80's Force 85.

Just Kidding

no do not buy a force especially a pre-early 90's model made by chrysler. get a reputable motor like merc, jonny-rude, yamaha ect. if you can afford it and find the right deal, only go with 115-135 h.p if possible. you will not regret it...i guarentee...theres no such thing as too much power and you know that weather you need it or not, it will always be there.
