well sort of. I bought a new deer rifle yesterday. Went to look at a remington 700 but the guy behind the counter showed me a Tikka T3. Madde in Finland, very nice finish, smooth action. Did a little research, and went back last night to get it.

Have to get it scoped and sighted in by Sat for opening day. Shouldn't be too hard as the range I shoot at is my backyard LOL.

My old Ruger is 20 some years old. I do have another rifle I use, a composite stock offshore Browning, but I like wood stock guns and really I just wanted a new one. LOL The Tikka is a full pound lighter than the Ruger so that will be nice LOL.

I know someone will ask, so I will get pics tonight, after I mount the scope on her. LOL

We need pics or it didn't happen! HA! Didn't want to disappoint you. Tikkas are nice toys. My brother has one and it is a smooth action and nice shooting gun. Have fun getting her ready for the first day.

My Browning BAR Safari has a wood stock. Heavy as all get out. But very accurate.

Interested to see that Tikka.

Speaking of opener, there may be a big storm Friday nite. North of the Low that's coming thru they're talking up to 15" right now. Location is NW Mn. But they're not sure the exact track. If it drifts further south, well, I could be plowing instead of hunting. Wouldn't be the 1st time I spent opener behind the plow. It would be a mess, nothing is froze up here.....

yeah, I have been hunting in the lower half of the state for some years now. (not sure why as I have family up by you) They say the storm will be north of us. our opener will be "warm" and sunny this year

NY opening is Saturday too and it is forecast to be near 60 and sunny. Gonna need to buy some orange t shirts and shorts. Never saw a Tikka in use hunting. Looked it up and seems impressive. I can tell you one thing: As I get older my weapons get lighter. My Marlin 35 lever is my new favorite to carry. Good luck with your new toy!!

KY opener was last Saturday ... Oldest brother is trying to get me to head down there and hunt with him for a few days. PA opener is the Monday after Thanksgiving, preliminary reports are cold by then. We will see.

My middle brother with the Tikka used it as his "goto" hunting piece till he fell with it in his hands. Both elbows landed on the ground and the force cracked the stock severely. About an hour later a big buck walked past him and he aimed and fired and the stock broke completely into 2 pieces. He missed the buck and went home with a busted stock. Tried to repair it, but the repairs with plugs, etc, just did not hold so he ended up buying a new stock. I don't believe he has taken it in the woods when there was rain or snow since. It was a fluke thing and the stock had a knot right in the narrowest portion of the stock. But to this day he wants to protect his Tikka.

interesting story Aspeck.must have been a good whack to crack the stock, even with a knot.

I am the same way kind of. I was out a couple seasons ago with my Ruger/leuopold vari-x combo. day started out rainy and crappy then got cold and icy wound up snowing and lousy. at the end of the day I took a pic of my rifle it was literally a block of ice in the scope area. could still see through the scope and the action still worked but I just felt terrible for having a nice piece of equipment in that element. the next day I went and bought a synthetic stock Browning with a cheaper leuopold scope.

when the weather looks crappy the synthetic gets the call. Funny the Tikka is the most expensive rifle I have (only because I bought the Ruger many years ago and used) but I do plan to take it out in the woods on a regular basis. the guy at Gander had a good point, the folks in Finland know a little bit about crappy weather and they build the product for it.

well put a cheap scope I had laying around on the Tikka a couple days ago. last night I got her out to do some shooting/sighting in.

two things I can say about this rifle:

first - it is accurate. really accurate. at 50 yds the bulletholes are all touching. can't wait to get it out and sight it in at a longer range. backyard is only set up for 50. with a good set of optics this rifle will be amazing in the accuracy dept.

second - it kicks like a mule!! I have 3 other 30:06 rifles. this one definitely has the most recoil. granted you don't normally shoot a box of shells through high power rifles but when you're having fun.....

all in all very fun to shoot, great fit and finish and the action is baby butt smooth. very nice gun. it is nice and light even with a scope and full mag.

Cool ... the light weight adds to the punch of the stock. My brother's Tikka has a smooth action and sweet trigger pull as well. Have fun with your toy!

I haven't seen or held or even worked the action on a Tikka yet. But it would have to be amazingly great to take it over a Remington 700. And the fact that you stated how light it is, is the exact reason it kicks so hard. When you give up weight, you pay for it with recoil. But as most anyone that hunts, you never feel any recoil when harvesting a game animal. Hope you have a very successful opener. Just be safe and know your target. :thumb:

yeah I went into this deal expecting a bit more recoil due to the lighter weight. As mentioned above recoil is never an issue in the field so no big deal.

and GM I have to say I love the remington action but this one was every bit as smooth as theirs. plus lighter weight, and the reviews on both were the final straw. there are folks who are die hard remmy guys and I'm sure some for Tikka as well but it seemed in head to head reviews the Tikka always won.

I have a buddy with a Remington who is now thinking about getting a Tikka after seeing mine. They are very nice.

Tikka is a good weapon, I have talked to a lot of guys over the years that would not give them up for twice the price they paid

I did research the Tikka rifle after seeing this thread. Seems it is built by Sako. And Sako makes some very high quality rifles. This Tikka, is a new offering by them on the lower cost side. One advertisement states they guarantee a MOA (Minute Of Angle) out of any rifle out of the box And their trigger pull is set around 3lbs. It is supposed to be adjustable from 2lbs to 4lbs. Three pound pull if perfect for a hunting rifle. I just have never held one. Shows how much I have missed things since I stopped hunting.
