new outdrive????

just bought a 1986 bayliner about 4 months ago the outdrive just went i have been looking for a new one.i found a volvo 250 anybody know if this would work.it has the 1;61 1 gear ratio so it would be fine on the v8.if anybody could answer befroe i buy it be much appreciated thanks mark

Forget the 250, it's an old straight cut gear, noisy (whinny) outdrive, and as I recall unless you have the same exact bolt setup that holds the helmut to the upper gear box (there are 3 styles) it will just be more trouble than it's worth.
What model came off your boat, I would expect possibly a 270 and probably a 280 on the 86.
That 250 is early 70's.
What model engine do you have?

the boat has a 225e engine in it on the steering helmet i have now it has two screw holes.
