new or used mercury block

i need a new or used mercury 1977 150 inline 6 block i have a crack in mine any sugestions on were to find one and about how much it should cost

John,you can use any gm 150 inline 6cyl block.There is no difference accept the brass freeze plugs and possibly stainless head gasket.From junk yard in N.Y about $400 for complete engine.Good Luck,wheels

Try ebay under the search heading of "mercury outboard". I found a block for a 1969 Merc. once for $100. Used will be your only option so a local boat graveyard may have what you need. I believe after you'er all said and done, you would be better off parting out your old motor(example; a good lower unit like yours will bring $200 on ebay, T&T around $150,electrics?, prop?, etc.)<br />If you repair yours, you still have an 25 year old motor which isn't worth a whole lot( mabey $600). I suggest updating your ride. My $.02 worth...

is there any way to repair the crack it is in the intake side of the cylinder

you can try a weld and bore( if the crack is in cylinder sleeve) but then again, theres $ for a new piston/rings/weld/bore/gasket set/ mucho labor. Is it worth it??

the crack is in the blosk outside of the cylinder slive in the intake side you can see it in the intake galley. should i buy a used power head? dont want to have more money in the motor than the whole boat is worth.

John, cut your losses, the sooner you kick this lump in the ditch the sooner you can go boating....no matter how much or little $$$ you spend on it, still is a 25 year old wore out POS...sell it, trade it,part it out, or junk it, but dont try an fix it.

thanks for all the advice i just bought the boat a mounth ago for $2500 it is a tehite just want to get back as much monney as i can any ideas
