Just got the news from my mechanic that I need a new block on my boat. I'm no mechanic and can use some inputs here...I have a 4.3L V6 OMC

1 - I was quoted $3900 for a new engine and $3000 for a rebuilt (installed)Are these prices reasonable?

2- What disadvantages to I have going rebuilt? I was told the warranty is the same

3- What things should I be asking or looking for in a replacement engine?

Re: new or rebuilt???

If it were me, I would spend the extra cash and get a new engine. I would ask myself where the rebuilt engine is coming from? Who built the engine and what qualifications do they have. Are they pro's or is it some greasy machine shop. Do they use new parts? To me a $900 difference between new and used is not very much. I would however expect to get a longer warranty on a new engine. Why is the engine warranty the same for new and rebuilt? That doesn't make sense to me. By the way, shop for prices. Engine pricing can be all over the place. Good luck...
