Hello all. Just joined forum, but have "lurked" for quite a while. I am in the process of buying a 1982 Skiff Craft X220. This boat has been completely restored at the factory and cosmetically is in excellent shape. However, as you may know, it comes with the Mercruiser 470. The owner (2nd owner) that I am buying it from has excellent maintenance records, so the engine has been well maintained with no coolant leaks or charging issues up until this point. The current owner also has a 3.0L 130 Merc and drive for sale in excellent running condition for what I would characterize as a very fair price ($1700). Should I buy the 3.0L in anticipation of serious issues with the 470 that I won't want to spend the money on? would the 3.0L be enough power? Should I just save the $1700 and get a 4.3L when/if the time comes (same drive ratios I believe)? Advice and input greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Bondo. So would you say that the 3.0 might be a little underpowered, and I would be much happier with a new or newer 4.3. Does part availability have a big role? I know the 3.0 is considered a very reliable engine, fwiw. Thanks again.

Great. I'll save the $1700 for now. Might need it for cam/seals/alternator upgrade ;-)

While I am at it, does anyone know if the Breezeworks kit will fit into the engine compartment? Again, the boat is a 1982 Skiff Craft X-220.
