An 8 year old FORCE still on factory pallet. I would expect that there could be some significant problems with a motor laying around for years on its side. I told the seller that I'd rather find one that had been used for some hours and then properly laid-up rather than this "new" one. He wants 900-1000 $ more than I think it's worth. Any comments?

Get the HP and the model number and how much is he asking for it. Laying on its side for 8 years isnt going to hurt it if it has never been run. Basically you would be buying a brand new motor even if it is a force. :D

that was a decent engine actually. it has the late style merc ign system. has the old style carbs and block design from the chysler days that worked well if maintained. my self I would rebuild the fuel pump and the water pump before running cause sometimes rubber dont like sitting and those two rubbers can cost ya a bunch if they fail. if its oil injected carefully inspect the vynil lines like any merc/force engine cause they will get hard with age and break. but properly maintained that motor will last a long time. no maint and like all other makes it dies a horrible death.
