New motor

Do I have to remove the outdrive WHen installing a new motor. Its a 71 Searay with a 3.0 mercruiser. Pre alpha outdrive.

Yes you have to pull the drive.
Otherwise you will not be able to align the engine, then in a short time you will be pulling the engine again to replace a $300 coupler.
It's also impossible to get the fiber washer, and double lockwashers under the mounts correctly without strain and damage to the very expensive coupler.
