i just purchased a 03 yamaha 115 4 stroke now in the manual it says a procedure to break in the motor and after 10 hours it says to run the engine normally from then on, my question is that the dealer says that affter the 10 hours i should bring the motor in for an oil change and to adjust the valves is this necessary or is it just a money grab ? also i looked in the manual and it says this does not need to be done until 400 hours or every 2 years {the valve seats that is }any help will be greatly appreciated.

I would think the dealer that sold it to you should be obligated to adjust the valves for nothing. I wouldnt think of selling a new outboard to someone and then telling them "oh yeah, after 10 hours you can pay me to change the oil and adjust the valves" I would guess his intentions would be to do it for nothing, except maybe the cost of the oil.

I would definatly have the oil changed after 10 hours. It may have break in oil in it.
