New Mercury 4000 Gen II Throttle Control 4 Pin Harness Issue

I recently bought a new Mercury 4000 Gen II side mount control. My issue is the molex adapter that is attached to the control is a 4 pin. My tilt/trim pump has the 3 wire flat tab plug. Now can I still use this control or do I need to send it back. Is wiring this up 4 wire to a 3 wire going to work? I have seen a 24' coversion kit but is it really needed? Please help.

If so, does the new one have 3 wires or 4 wires going in to the black plug? Also what colors are they? Thanks.

Yes is does. The 4 wire colors are Red,Purple,Green,and Blue. They are attached to the molex white square plug.
