New kind of the oil?

In the last few years (7 or so) I used Quicksilver Synthetic blend 4-Cycle Sterndrive and Inboard engine oil, SAE 25W-40. I had 1.5 quarts left since last year, and poured that into the engine first. Then I opened a new can of what I thought is the same, although the new can looks slightly different. I thought that this is only the matter of new look, since the label says basically the same: Quicksilver 4-stroke SAE 25W-40 Synthetic Blend, for use in 4-cycle outboard, sterndrive and inboard engines.

But, when I started pouring it I recognized that its color is slightly different from last year's version. I poured two quarts of it, and started the engine, and winterized the boat. My question now is this: did I do the right thing? Are those two oils are the same, and only the bottle design is different, and if not exactly the same, is this a problem? Thanks.

They are the same, only issue is what color dye they use in the oil. Merc doesn't make the oil and the lowest bidder gets the job. IMO if our a guy you only boats in weather above 50 degrees, just use straight 40W oil, so long as it has API cert label.

If you want to continue using Merc oil, its all good

Just curious, are the part numbers on the two bottles the same?

Engine oils change formulations slightly all the time, nothing to worry about.

I have never noticed this, but I have a few gallons on the shelf. Now I want to open them and look! LOL
