New Kid @ a QD-20 Fuel Pump Question

Just a quick question before I go back to lurking on the side lines.

After getting back my Dad's QD-20, and being blessed with my grandson for the summer I realized my dad's tanks are shot. They are the only thing that has more holes in them then my boat.

Anyway, after searching many, many threads, I believe the safest way to go is to do the fuel pump conversion.

On the QD-20, the bypass cover will not allow for a flush fit to the pump vacuum/pressure port. I could fill it with JB Weld, then attach to it, I could machine the outside surface smooth and port to that, mount a plate, then port the pump to that void. (not sure that would work, too big of a void). I could do the same thing, and place a transfer tube, to isolate the void.

My question is: So is there any experience out there on this, or other ideas? Is there a later model that the bypass cover will fit, that already has the pump mounts? And source?

Thank you for your advice, expertise and experience.

Re: New Kid @ a QD-20 Fuel Pump Question

You have the last year of the pressure tank on the 10's. The '60-'63 10's all have the bypass cover and pump you need if you can find one.

So if the bypass cover is not flat, then drill a hole and mount a nipple and connect the hose to a small (and cheap) mikuni pump would be my recommendation.

Someone else posted these pics a while back...

Thanx!!

For both the advice, and the pictures. I'd read about the mukuni, but had not seen one. Pictures were a big plus.

Back to lurking.
