I just got a boat with a brand new Johnson 150 on it. Took it out this weekend to try to break it in. I started it once. It started up after a minute or two of trying. Smoked a lot, but i thought that was ok cause of the oil i was told to mix with my first tank of gas. Anyway, after i started it i went to idel like my book said to. I pushed the throttle a little too much forward and the rpm's jumped to about 3 or so, so i pulled back out of it qucikly.A few seconds later it died. Now it wont start. It wants to start but wont turn all the way over to start. Anyone know what my problem is? Please help if you can.
Thanks

I'd definitely check the spark plugs... sounds like you fouled them.

Sometimes when a motor is cold if you run the throttle up too high right away it will foul them almost immediately.

Throw some new ones in and you should be good to go.

Jeremiah.....if it's brand new, take it back to the dealership and tell them the problem. Should be under warante.

If it started once and then died and won't start agin, sounds like ignition related problem.....no spark. But again, if it's new, take it back. If you try and fix it, it may mess up the warantee.

if its not turning over properly it sounds like maybe your battery is dead from trying to start too much. my suggestion: charge battery, clean plugs and try again.
