New Johnson fuel tank & line fitting question

I ordered a new Johnson OEM fuel tank and line. It's one of the newer plastic tanks that only has a 1/4" FIPS outlet fitting. I ordered the brass fitting that the fuel line attaches to, but I wondered before it came whethere there would be enough clearance to screw the fitting in....there was not.

Is there a trick to removing the fuel pickup assembly so I can screw on the fitting, or do I have to use 1/4" brass nipples and a 45 degree elbow to get it to the place where the fitting will rotate? The manual is no help on this one.

Anyone know how to get that fuel pickup out? Since you can buy the part, I assume it's removeable. It does not turn or unscrew.

Let the tank sit all day in the sun so it's kinda flexible. Put Teflon tape on the fitting threads and screw it in. Tank should flex enough that you can thread it in.

jmo, but i would get a fuel barb for the tank end and return that connector....sure its a pita to keep the line with the tank, but its one less chance for an air leak.

ronhoward, I'll try leaving it in the sun, but I'm not to hopeful, that's REAL heavy plastic, one reason I went with OEM. I'll give it a shot though.

nwcove, I thought about a hose barb to screw in there and attach the hose, but like you say, it's a PIA to have the hose permanently attached. I occasionally have to transfer bas by pouring. I have a merc tank like that and when I pour, I mostly end up making a mess and swearing at it! :)

Thanks, guys.

Me too. Just get a hose barb for the tank and permanently attach the hose to it. That's the way I have mine.
