If it's a carbed version, yes, it's a looper.
150 vs. 175 is likely carburation, maybe slightly different heads, but I believe the port timing is the same.

Insurance will be void in most cases if an accident occures. This topic has come up quite a bit. I have a 200 on a boat rated for 150, but if anything ever happens, I have no coverage and will be set up for a law-suit. We all have choices though, it's just how you handle it.

Don't forget, you will be liable for the next guy that owns the rig also... How well do you trust him?(whoever "him" is)

Horsepower ratings for boats have more to do with torque produced rather than weight alone.

If you, as a private individual, sell a boat rated at 150 with a 175 to another private indivdual and he has a wreck, you are just as much at fault as he is. In the lawsuit it will say that you "did know or should have known the craft was overpowered". I can give you the phone number to a buddy who lived that nightmare.

It kinda depends on your state and your boat. If it's over 20ft, then max Hp ratings are just guidelines. Under 20' and you better heed that tag or all sorts of nastiness can come for a visit. In some states it is ILLEGAL to overpower a boat. I know it is here. Weight isn't the issue. The LAW is!

This thread would make the basis of a good FAQ. Comes up enough. What you guys think?
