Re: New Jersey fisherman

Greetings!

This is my first season fishing in New Jersey, and my first season with the boat! That being said, I took the kids out on the Raritan Bay last week. We caught 5 fluke within 1 1/2 hours. Kids had a great time. Fishing with kids means they fish while you untangle lines, so I do not know how we'll I could have done. We can see NYC from where we boat, so it is not far. If a boat is an issue, I have heard the Keansburg Fishing Pier is pretty good (http://keansburgfishingpier.com/). We were fishing not far from it, so the fish should be there as well.

Good luck!

Sounds great Edward, is there a place to launch an inflatable for free or a fee?

With my limited experience in this area, I would think the western end of the bay would be the place to fish in a smaller boat. Perth Amboy has a municipal boat ramp. This puts you in the water where the Arthur Kill and the Raritan meet. I have seen many small boats fishing at that end. We started fishing at the main shipping channel near there, and let the wind and waves push us towards shore. That day we were catching the fish from the channel to water about 12 feet deep. But I have seen a lot of boats anchored near the channel fishing the deep water.
