Hi, before we replace another impellar, I was wondering what else would cause severe over-heating? Water was streaming out the tell-tale fine and motor stalled. Fired her back up and than no tell-tale and over-heated again. New water pump at fault?

Re: New Impellar, Still over-heating

Hi Lonewolf, The Clymer manual says to turn the shaft clockwise which means the fins trail behind. Someone else (Navigator?) mentioned the fins facing the other way too. I'm beginning to wonder now since this is our second one in two months if we are bending it in the wrong direction although the first melted and was blamed on starting her without muffs for a few seconds(a couple of times!) HHmmm, Anyone else out there know the correct direction? Thanks in advance!

OMC's use a plastic wedge type key to drive the impeller. Don't worry about getting the blades facing the right way. As soon as you start the engine they all get lined up the right way.

Get the engine deeper in that tank before you start her again.

When you install the new pump kit, with the impeller on the drive shaft, spray it down with mild soap and water (NOT GREASE OR OIL)and turn the shaft clockwise ( the same way the engine turns ) and push the pump housing down over it . Then if your not close to a body of water , take the prop of and run it in the biggest bucket or can you got (try to get the water up to 1-2" below the exhaust relief holes. Then let us know. Good luck.
