Thanks to a number of threads on this site, I decided to go out and get a SE 200 Sport hydrofoil for my 14ft. fishing boat with a 9.9 Merc on it. While installing it, I also raised the motor about 1.5 inches to make the hydrofoil more or less even to the bottom of the hull. WOW!! I went from a nearly unusable boat to a smooth and very quick little setup for my 200 acre lake in southeastern Wisconsin.
Before these minor, easy and cheap ($40.00 at Bass Pro) fixes my boat would be very difficult to steer, take forever to plane, and would porpose badly once getting on plane. Not any more. It takes only a few second to plane, turns on a dime and is smooth and quick.
Thanks for all the info from everyone who contributes to this site.

Aren't they great?!?!

Makes you wonder why the manufacturers don't deliver their motors with hydrofoils as an integral part, no?
