New Hogan Lake stripers are pretty much a waste of time this time of year, and I proved it once again yesterday.
I pulled a couple of twisting anchovies up the narrows, clear to the No Wake zone. I worked the area inside the first island pretty well, too. Then I reeled in and cruised to the dam where I made a pass and trolled back across the lake near the ramp. After four hours of trying, I just gave it up.
One other guy was trolling but he left early with his skunk.
Only a few rigs were in the parking lot, and that was a good thing. The best part was that the weather was ideal. A breeze kicked up in the afternoon, but it was sunny and warm.
I marked a few fish, but that doesn't mean much. Several guys have told me that the stripers first appear in the narrows area at the beginning of the season. Yesterday must not have been the beginning - yet. It'll get better...
