My father recently picked up an '86 Chaparral with a Volvo 5.8 FL engine and a DP-S drive. We have a fair amount of experience with Mercruisers, but this is our first Volvo. I have a few questions about the Volvo and hope you'll bear with me. Thanks for the help and happy boating!

-I've checked the model number and we have a '95-'96 vintage engine. I would assume the drive is original. When did Volvo begin producing the DP-S drive?
-Will a Merc Alpha/Bravo gimbal bolt into the Volvo transom cut-out?
-We seem to have broken the drive coupling this past weekend (chunks of rubber in the bilge, etc.). Anything to be aware of when replacing one? Do you need to pull the engine?
-How much power can you put through a DP-S drive? I see that the newer DP-S drives are sold with 420 hp engines.
