just had a repair done on my hull that has left a rectangle, maybe 10X4 inches, of nice new gelcoat. the hull is slightly faded, polish wont get the rest up to the same color, but is their a way to maybe fade that new section a little faster?

For $10-12.00 it's worth trying Marine Penetrol to restore the old finish. A quart should be enough to do more than one 18-20 foot boat that has full color gunwale. You may have to prep a little with polishing compound, but try a small area right out the can to see how much it can improve the appearance of your faded color without any prep first. Just wipe on, let sit for 10 minutes and buff off by hand. Unless your boat is super faded, you'll amazed at how much improvement you can achieve. Let us know if you're pleased.

The only thing that will cure that new section is time and mother nature. The color is probably the same as when the boat was new,but the rest of the boat has seen sun, rain, polution etc..just like when you take off molding that has been covering gelcoat,it appears brand new even though the rest of the boat dosnt have any oxidation. It wont take long for it to blend with the rest of the boat good luck

Get some 1000 grit wet dri sandpaper and wetsand the new area, if it is still to glossy, drop down to 600 grit and try that, eventually you will de-gloss it enough to where it doesn't stand out so bad.
