New gauge set compatibility?

Looking to install all new gauges and fuse panel in my 1981 Sun Ray (OMC sterndrive). When researching different sets from manufacturers, I keep coming across compatibility requirements, but none specifically say OMC. Am I over thinking this or should I do more research between the different manufacturers? I'm not looking for anything crazy or sophisticated. Just need a tach, oil pressure, volt, water temp, trim, and fuel. The oil pressure gauge is electrical, not mechanical, so that shouldn't be an issue. I guess I'm primarily worried about the trim gauge as I don't quite understand how exactly they work and what options are out there. Thoughts?

My 2002 Crestliner uses Farnia Beede instruments. I have a Mercury engine. Looking at boats for sale on Craigs list, I see lots of boats that show up on that list up in Minnesota where the Crestliner is popular, are running Evinrude engines. Looks like they are compatible with OMC type engines.

you are over-thinking it....

most dont say OMC, because OMC went out of business over 20 years ago, and most boats only last 15, so that is not a target rich market.

however first, what is wrong with your current gauges?

second, you will be hard pressed to find a gauge that will work out of the box with your OMC stringer trim.

your original gauges were most likely teleflex, which is now VeeThree. you can get many of the gauges thru Sierra (the VeeThree aftermarket dealer)

Just wanting to update the interior. Haven't had it out yet since I bought it last fall, so I should try it out first, I suppose. Everything is working when on the hose, but it's old, so looking for reliability, too.

Here is an example of their tachometers and applications. You can return to the home page and see all of their instruments. As bondo said, different instruments for different engine types.
