New fishing rod?

I have been using heavy duty power plus rods from Bass Pro and my wife has been using medium action Ugly Sticks. We have two piece rods because they are easier to carry around if you take them apart and wrap a couple of strips of velcrow around them. I fished with my son a couple of times from the bridge over the river while he was home and most people used rods that have more tip action but enough backbone to handle a good sized fish. This made it easier for them to see when they had a bite because the tips bounced more easily. I was wondering who makes a good rod like that and doesn't cost much over $50 and I would prefer it to be a two piece. The rods these guys were using were probably at least 7 1//2' long and they managed to carry them in their cars some how. Thanks

I like the 2 piece Browning Silaflex rods. They are fiberglass and are flexible at the tip.. I own 4 of them, medium action and medium-heavy. I love them. The flexibility at the tip helps me cast lighter lures further. They are around $40 from Bass Pro Shops.

Thanks! I looked them up on the pc but I think I will have to make a trip to the store to really see what they have. I like the ones with the trigger but I might have to go to the spinning rod to get the 2 piece in the length I want. Thanks again

For that application you want a mod-fast to fast action rod with a med. power rating. Getting rid of the extra mass in the tip will help out with the sensitivity. A composite (graphite/glass) blank would be my first choice but hard to find in that price range.

What size fish are you catching? The BPS Power Plus - 7' - #10-25 rod should give you the qualities your looking for at an affordable price

if you like the ugly sticks they have an ugly stick lite. they are 7 foot long. they are very sensitive and strong also. they have a five year warranty. i have stepped on mine in the boat. i left one out the side of the boat and i docked the boat and it hit the dock. it bent but did not break. if snagged i can pull the boat with mine.i have 2 ugly stick lite and three ugly stick medium. i also have a 5 foot ugly stick lite i use in trout streams and i have fallen and broke the handle off my reel but the rod was fine. i dont know where you are located but here in canada they are 40 dollars at canadian tire or at walmart.

Just my 2 cents but i bought a 7' i think zebco hawg seeker 2 piece rod from bass pro, it was $50 and has some alarm on it when something hits but i don't use it, kinda cheap but very happy with the rod overall.

I found a Diawa rod and open face spinning reel on sale for $30 and went ahead and bought it because the other Diawa open face that I have is the smoothest working reel I have ever owned.

Depending on how strong the current, try a hair pin. Clip the hair pin on an eye mount, say 3 eyes down from the tip. Then insert the line in the pin. When a fish bites it pulls the line out of the pin. It actually works very well providing the current doesn't pull the line out....

I had a heavy enough sinker that kept the bait from going anywhere. Was fishing for walleyes.....
