So you have spent tens of thousands of bux on a new boat with a new engine and you are too cheap to buy a Service Manual?? That just doesn't make sense.

If it is, indeed, a new engine you should at least have gotten an Owners Manual with it.

80 bucks just seems high to learn some tips about oil and filter change. owners manuel is not very clear on that, but lube points and lower unit are straight forward. just want to do the 20 hour service myself.......not after a 500 hour service!

Watch for gas in the oil, a chronic issue with those motors. Break it by running the snot out of it. Make sure you can get it up to 6000 rpm with your current prop and run it at 6000 at least some of the time. Best I have learned is you need to get em warmed up GOOD before running them and when you run, RUN IT! Those motors must get up to max. operating temp to seat the rings and keep the gas out of the crank case. Unless you put alot of hours on it don't run synthetic oil. Use Yamalube or equivilent FCW rated oil. Avoid 10% ethanol gas, get you a 10 micron fuel/water seperator filter. Run ringfree, seafoam or similiar regularly.

Other than that enjoy the fuel economy, and the reliabilty.

I'm no expert but I have that very motor in a 2002 model and we have about 10 yamaha 4 strokes at my work. Gas in the oil has been the biggest issue. Other than a brand new 350 that threw a rod at about 30 hours.

No problem.

My 02 has been a good motor all I've done is change spark plugs and oil. Only have 200 hours on it though:)

PAS BON pretty much said it all, would like to add to avoid towing another boat with it unless you have no choice. Fouls the plugs real fast. Seems the correct prop cured my making oil problem on my 05.
As for the manual, the factory manual is a waste. During my carrier have worked with BOEING, DOUGLAS, CONVAIR, LOCKHEED, always bought a FORD or GM book for my vehicles. Of all I have worked with, the YAMAHA book is the worse. TECHs like RODBOLT can get the good stuff, it out there, but we cant get it. regards FRED

buy a manual, read it, study it and learn your motor, you'll get better performance, save time/money ontrips to the Yamaha dealer. I have the Clymer Yamaha Manual and it seems fine to me for $31 on line from an outboard motor book place in DeBary, Florida. my brother-in-law up on the Nassau River had a Yamaha 115 four stroke, got water in the 60 gallon built in fuel tank, had a real bad time of it, had to remove center console, T-top, cut into deck, remove big plastic tank, replace with 40 gallon aluminum tank with a drain valve built into it. the fuel injectors really don't like water!..had to replace all injectors plus just a lot of pain, misery and money$$! stay on top of that water/fuel seperator. motor runs very well and burns about the same fuel as my 90C 2 stroke. Good Luck!

Copied this from another forum, but it sounds about right to me

"Just to weigh in my 2 cents worth. Have a couple 2001 115hp 4 stokes that did the same thing. Took it back to the dealer and he said to run the sh**t out of it for an hour. Rings seated, oil is fine, and have over 600 hours on them now. Just a thought."
