Re: new engine
Great engine. My dad bought a 2-stroke 9.8 a little over a year ago and it's been great. The thing is so small and light it feels like a toy, but it pushes his boat faster than the 15 it replaced.

The only thing he's had happen was what I assume to be a stuck float needle. The boat sat in the garage for a month or so with the gas tank connected and the vent closed. On the next trip we took it out, it started right up, but quickly stalled. We couldn't get it to fire again after many pulls on the rope, so we disconnected the fuel line (thinking we flooded it). After several more pulls it started and ran fine until we reconnected the fuel line - it soon stalled. Figuring the float needle or float hinge was gunked up, we gave the carb a few good taps with a fist and it started again with no more problems.

That happened over a year ago and no problems since. He just disconnects the fuel line before he puts the boat away.
