I have a new computer with Windows XP and IE 6. When I try to right click on images to "save as", the only two options that appear for saving are .art and .bmp; whenever I try to save a .jpg then open it in Photoshop or another program, it won't open because it's an "invalid file format" or a similar message.

I've searched microsoft for this problem, found it and tried all the suggestions there (clearing the cache, unchecking the "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" option in Tools> Options> Advanced, etc. They acknowledge that this can be a problem with XP and IE6. Nothing has worked, I've also set AOL to never copmpress graphics.

I'm wondering if my firewall is the problem and if anyone has any other ideas on fixing it.

Thanks.

HMMM,
Good question. I just right-clicked on your avatar and the only two options were JPG and BMP. Never noticed before..

AK Chappy

Try e mailing the picture to yourself and saving it from your email. I think that might work.

At your suggestion I tried that, but when I clicked on "email picture", my email didn't open up. (Guess that's another one to figure out.)

So I tried saving it again and weirdest thing, I don't think I changed any settings since posting the question, but now the jpeg option appears when I click "Save picture as" and it saves the file. Photoshop will open it. It's working but I'm stumped.

Getting a new computer is nice but it sure takes a lot of time to copy over files you need and get things set up the way you want them, set up & move peripherals over etc. It should be fun setting up the DSL! I jumped from Windows 98 to XP & I love it, also way beefed up my memory and hard drive, it makes a big difference.

And the funny thing is, I paid about $350 less than I paid for the old one 4 years ago!!

Thanks for the thoughts!
