New carburetor float

For the first time rebuild 1993 3 hp Johnson carburetor. Got to the point of installing a new float from the kit. The manual says to use OMC Float Gauge p/n 324891. I don't have the gauge. Does anyone know the measurement of how high top of the float should be from the bowl gasket surface? Or should I just set it parallel to the joining surface? OMC made rocket science out of this one instead of giving measurement as others normally do.

Thanks.

^^first use of that new manual, and now being told to ignore it! (I agree -- just eyeball it.)

I have to say, of all the carbs I've rebuilt over the years, I have yet to see one that didn't have the float adjusted anywhere but level. There is really no need for any float gauge. And there is a little lead way in float adjustments. So a little off isn't a huge issues. JMHO!
