WOW... What a weekend.
Started off Friday after work with me picking up my new boat. The dealership was an hour and a half from my house. On the way home, I am cruising down the Garden State Parkway, I get into the left lane to pass some slower traffic. As I pass the first car he decides to do the same thing as I am and proceeds to merge into the left lane not realizing I am pulling a trailer. He cuts over just after my truck passes him and runs right into the trailer. I was ready to get out and... Well... you can probably imagine. I pull over and get out to inspect the damage. As I am getting to the back of the trailer, I see him step out of his Nissan Pathfinder. He was scared & visibly shaken so I started calming down. The damage wasn?t too bad. He couldn?t have hit it any better. His front fender hit the vinyl guidepost on the rear of the trailer & his mirror hit the rubber bump strip on the side of the boat. His car had more damage. Some trim got ripped off, his fender was dented & his mirror was scratched. If he had been a foot more forward or reverse, he would have hit the hull. We exchanged information and went our ways.
So the next morning, the wife & I get up early to take out our new boat. First stop was a local marine supply store for line, flares, first aid kit, nets, oil, etc. Then we were on to the boat ramp. Unloading wasn?t too bad. (Loading is another story) We had a perfect day. We were on the water for a bit over 8 hours on Saturday & 7 hours on Sunday. Gorgeous weather, the fish were biting (Only one keeper though), the boat ran great. I am officially hooked. We will most likely be out every weekend for the rest of the season.
Of course, we found a few problems with the boat. Since its an older boat (1993), that was expected. Most of the problems are minor. The only one that caused us any trouble was the prop. When I give it throttle it will accelerate up to a certain point (Usually around 4600rpm) and then the engine will rev up fast and the boat will slow down. It feels like the prop is slipping. I talked to my marine store about it on saturday and they said that either the prop is too small or the hub is spinning. They marked the prop & hub with a punch. I am going to take it off today and see if the marks moved.
