New Boat :)

Hi Everyone.

I have been reading a lot and have finally bought a 2002 Chaparral 180 sse with the volvo I/O 3L.

Any opinions ?

Here is the problem. The previous owner did not winterize the boat properly and he bought a new block:

So it turns out that it's a volve lower unit but the Barr engine inside.

Does anyone have any experience using this engine or did I get ripped off.

Also my blower is fried. What replacement do I buy.

Thanks and pictures will follow soon :)

It looks like a fine replacement engine, but I hope that you got a new exhaust manifold, & riser, for it, because the old ones might have been cracked as well! Besides, if I were you, I wouldn't take any chances with the old ones, on a new block. Then the very next thing you should do, is replace the rubber water pump impeller in the lower unit, because they dry out, & crack after awhile, just to be on the safe side, if you don't know when it was done last?

Cool...I'll let my mechanic know so he can inspect it in April.

I must say that the chaparrals are very fine boats :)

Real nice boat....Hopefully you'll get to enjoy it early in the spring (guessing you're in Ontario by the tags on the boat)

Yes. Ontario. And it's going to be a very long winter :(

Oh well. I have a few projects on the go so I'll keep myself busy.

Thanks

Just bought the same 180 si but a 2003 version and 49 hours. Same color, identical. Running well currently.

I didn't realize there was an impeller in the lower unit. There is one in the engine water pump that I will be changing. Are you sure about this?

The water pump on the engine is like a car, but better "marine specifc" you don't have to change it unless you're sure it's bad? The impeller in the drive is rubber, and drys out, & wears, every few years, if the boat is new to you, it needs to be checked, and possibly replaced,,, This is normal maintenace procedure. It's not that hard to do, the average guy with some mech skills can do it.

Sorry about that,,, Duh!, I was thinking Mercruiser
But, I think you still should have one in the drive?

No problem. Had me going for a minute.

I still can't find anything regarding impeller maintenance on the drive. Anyone? I don't want to neglect an important item.
