I just sold my old light weight aluminum,and bought a 14x48 Jon Boat. I have a new Tohatsu 18hp 4stroke with a stainless prop. Boat weight is 270lbs with myself and wife and fishing gear you could add another 500lbs. do you think this combo is good enough to plain out? And about how fast should it run ? Howdy, Mudbass.<br /><br />Yes, I think your 18 should plane the new boat. I would expect a top speed in the low 20s.<br /><br />You may need to try out different prop pitches to get the best performancce, decent hole shot plus cruise on plane.<br /><br />Good luck.
