This is probably a dumb question, can I pull the engine without pulling the outdrive? It's my 1st i/o. Actually my 1st boat in 20 years. I'm eventually going to pull the outdrive, but I wanted to get to the engine 1st. It's going to be a total rebuild so I guess it dosn't really matter which sequence. It has a 318 Chrysler / Volvo 250 outdrive.

You can, but it's the hard way to do it. Easy way is to remove only the upper gear box of the drive, then remove the 6 bolts holding the clamp ring to the flywheel cover and lift engine and flywheel cover all at once.
