So i just bought a boat with a merc 650 motor on it. The guy started the boat when i looked at it no problem. I took the boat home and when i tried to start it, no go, it cranks but wont start. It has mercontrol with a warm up lever and electric choke. It seems very straight forward. Tried everything and couldnt get it to start. The guy i bought it from came by and it started right up. He says the warm up lever needs to be all the way forward and hold the choke and crank. Then release the choke as soon as it rolls over to let it breath. i still cant get the boat to start on my own. I am not new to working with engines but new to boats. It seems to me that there is something going on with this motor to make it hard to start and the guy is just used to this. My question is, are these finicky to start or is there something else going on that would cause this problem with starting?
