Im completely new to boats, Im 23 years old and fairly familiar with anything from small engines to high performance v8s but boats/boating is completely new to me. Hopefully you guys can help me with a few issues...

I traded my 700 dollar Camaro for a Glastron Carlson Cv-16 with (I believe original) 115hp Evinrude. I want to run it in the driveway before I take it out on the lake, so I purchased a set of 'earmuffs' from walmart, and I need a second opinion before I mess anything up.

Im including a picture with numbers 1 through 4 and my questions.

#1: Place muffs over these holes?
#2: What are these holes for?
#3: Water and exhaust exit out of this hole? ("Spitting" water at idle is normal?)
#4: This is the crankcase fill hole?

ONE Last question while I've got your guys' attention
Is there a crankcase fill/check/dipstick/whatever for the actual crank itself (closest to cylinders under the cowl) ?? Or is it dry ??

Thanks for taking the time to read my post!!!!

Water will come out of #2. In fact, water will come out of just about everywhere along the lowest seam. Don't panic. It's normal.
Another thing: when you run your motor on muffs, it runs lean because you don't have the skeg in the water, wich means you don't have back pressure. So your motor will sound a little "crapy" and, again, that's normal. As for #4 not a fill hole but a "full" hole. In a nut shell: you remove the lower fill screw, connect the manual oil pump, remove the top screw, pump oil, when oil comes out the top hole, stop, replace top screw, remove manual pump, replace lower screw. To check if water in oil: remove lower screw, remove top screw, oil will start to come out (hopefully) if milky oil or worst, water comes out, you have issues.

And very important(DON'T MESS WITH THE PHILLIPS HEAD SCREW); the the pivot pin screw for your clutch dog shifter.

There is no phillips head screw for for the clutch dog in that lower unit. If there is a screw there it holds in the pinion gear bearing.

That is a 2-stroke motor. The crankcase gets the oil mixed in the gas.
50:1 gas-to oil ratio. TC-W3 outboard oil.
Please post the model number. It could be a VRO for all we know.
