Hey everyone! I'm new here and sort of new to boating. I've had many types of boats, mostly canoes, kayaks and jon boats with small motors. Now I've gone and purchased a 1992 bayliner capri 2050 4.3 merc. I have 2 boys, 13 and 15 and wanted to get away from the motorcycle and spend more time with these guys. WOW! The whole family loves it. My wife is a totally different person. We have been on lake champlain recently. We are only about 15 miles away. The question I have is how big can the waves be before it is seriously dangerous for us to be out there? Or are we all right and am I just being to cautious? Last time out windy 12-15 knots and 3' to possibly 4' waves in the broad lake. Seemed really big so we ducked out behind islands all day. It looked like there were boats our size out there but that didn't mean to me that they knew any more than I did. Any way Just introducing myself and enjoy reading all that goes on. Thanks,
Dean Northern Vt.

Welcome to the forum! We need more capri's on here to offset all of these starcraft owners

As for the waves, I have no idea, since my capri hasn't seen water yet (with me in it, at least). I hope it handles well, though, as I plan to use it on the ocean at some point.

i you are going to have to hit big water, i first suggest, bilge pumps. i have 2 pumps totally independant of each other. one auto/manual or manual, each runs off different batteries, and separate discharge thru hull fittings.

also have a snap on bow cover made, with the support pole in the center and snaps to the bottom of pass thru window. this will shed any splash over the bow.

the size of the wave is not the worst part, it is the frequency of the waves.
