Hello all I am interested in a Deep-V type aluminium fishing boat. Not too picky on the brand(Lund,Alumacraft,Crestliner,Lowe) My question is how much have you been able to negotiate off of the MSRP on these types of boats? Should I be shooting for a certain percentage? I know when I bought my travel trailer it was like 35% off msrp so just wondering if the boating industry is similar. Thanks.

Re: New boat discounts??

Depends completely on the manufacturer, dealer, season, age etc. So one dealer may have a Lund with a huge discount that has been on their "floor" for a year, while the same boat at another dealer could be at list price. Or a manufacturer may help a dealer or dealers with a discount on a certain model in October while there would be no discount in April. No good rules to follow here IMHO.

Location matters a lot too, some places Aluminum boats are rare and may be discounted.

Edit: Ooops. Welcome aboard!!

Re: New boat discounts??

I thought long and hard about buying new and decided against it. I've purchased two new boats, in my life. One, a Lowe Aluminum (Johnson outboard)-Great boat. The other a Palm Beach Center Console with a Suzuki. The latter was a lemon from the get go.

My last purchase was a four year old boat with 15 hours on the clock. Yes, I put $1,000.00 into it making sure everything was perfect but that is still $10K less than new, for the same boat. $10K is $10K.

The thing about used cars and used boats is that each one is-UNIQUE. No two have the same usage and care.

I would shop around for used.

I just sold a used boat with a new engine which had a six year warranty. The warranty sold the boat-for my price.

I got 15% off of MSRP and a few upgrades for free on mine. However, some companies like Tracker have no haggle pricing so it's like buying a TV at Walmart. The price you see is what you pay no matter where you go. I think you're really going to have to call around to dealers and see what they will be willing to do on the boat you're interested in. Also check the manufacture's web site and see if they have any incentives available.

Thanks this is what I was looking for. The problem with used on these models is they lose very little value because there minimal wear and tear on aluminum boats. Hopefully some people who have purchased this type(16ft or so) with 40-60 outboard will chime in with their purchase experience as well.

For a new boat, it's pretty easy to get them to throw in the first service (20 hr service) also.
