I'll start this with saying I know I don't do well with change and usually very fiscally conservative when it comes to purchases. I work very hard and save my money.
Some time back I posted I was shopping for a new boat... Well, I bought it about 1.5 months back and still processing and think I have buyers remorse.
We had the Wellcraft for about 9 years. It's old, interior is showing it's age a bit. The 5.7L (Carb) was the real ticket and cruising was low 20's, WOT is 54MPH. It could accelerate out of a hole with 6 people in the stern NO PROBLEM. cockpit was cramped, Ride was rough and quality was lacking. It wasn't great at taking waves and rough days required plowing most places but it did the job.
After a month of negotiating, I purchased (in cash) a 2014 Sea Ray Sundeck 220 for roughly NADA price. It's the 5.0L MPI with an A1 drive. 230 hours. It rides SOO much better, has improved cockpit space, little head, walk through stern, large swim platform. All the seats are comfortable, takes waves like a champ, cruises upper 20's, WOT is about 43MPH.
Cons: I'm not liking this sea ray smartcraft gauges, it will be IMPOSSIBLE to change plugs/ wires with the engine crammed under the deck. I was really disappointed first time out loaded down I needed to shuffle guests around to get on-plane. I really thought the MPI and similar horsepower would not be such a hit. Seller who had "all the receipts" lost them and never produced so I'm kinda disappointed how clumsy someone can be with records.
It's a beautiful boat but feels cookie cutter compared to even the Wellcraft and I'm regretting having spent so much and not in love with it after a month plus of trying.
In the mean time- I have the Wellcraft for sale, I've lowered the price (14->13->12K) for a turn key boat and have little leads on a sale both on FB and Craigslist. (It started hot and fizzled out quickly). I'm 1/2 tempted to list the Sea Ray but I know my partner will kill me.
Not sure what to do.
