New boat and trailer

Hey, new to here and new to boats. I was given a boat w/trailer for free. I've been reading like mad trying to learn all I can.

I'm looking at the front of the trailer and I'm noticing that it looks like the stop pad for the boat
Is way too at back? Looks like the boat has hit the pully several times. Is it possible to adjust this or does it require some major modification?

Welcome Whaase. That does look like you are getting way to close to your winch. There doesn't seem to be any room for adjustment on your setup but before you start to modify your trailer I would look into getting a longer pad. If you can't find a longer pad than I would try to extend the brackets that the pad is attached to. By the way that looks like a nice boat especially for the price. Enjoy.

Welcome to iboats! Nice gift! The winch looks like it is too big for the intended purpose. Maybe try finding a smaller model that will still handle the boat, but gives a smaller profile so it does not contact the keel.

Please tell us about your new toy; year, make and model. More pic's too! :D

Nice boat. Nicer price. :D The easiest and cheapest (only need steel and 4 bolts) fix is to extend the bar's between the winch and the pad by inserting a couple of strips maybe 3 or 4" longer. I'd use the existing hole's (just behind the winch and the current pad bolt hole). The post itself has plenty of adjustment to slide forward the extra 3 or 4" and you don't need to undo anything as it isn't through bolted. Will just need some "gentle" persuasion with a hammer as it locks itself in place.

Never say, "that is it", or "she is ready to go"! Those words will haunt you when dealing with boats! LOL!

Welcome Aboard!

Nice Ride! ;)

Before we get too much into it, Please go to your PROFILE at the top of this page and fill in your LOCATION so we can answer any question with relevant information.

When we hear the words "I was given a Free Boat", the first question that usually comes up is, "Did You Get The Title with it?"

I also noticed in your pictures that the boat doesn't appear to ever have had any registration numbers on it!
I will assume that means that you are not in the USA.

But Again, Welcome Aboard! :)

If the winch works good I would simply take it off and mount it to the main vertical(mostly) post behind the winch where you have your receiver in the last pic, problem solved.

The winch is pretty darn close to the hull, but something else... The boat's bow eye should be located under the trailer's bow stop, so if you do an emergency panic stop, the boat doesn't ride up and over the bow stop. The trailer was probably designed like that long ago, but new trailers have the bow eye under the bow stop. I'm not sure if the post is high enough to relocate it that way though...

If you move the Lower bolt and join it to the one just above it, the angle may change enough to get the Bow Stop above the Bow Eye and position the Winch so it is well clear of the Hull.

Agree with UncleWillie. Loosen everything up on the post. Slide the post forward and make it more verticle. Then reposition the winch mount and bow stop so that the bow stop is above the bow eye. Looks like there is a lot of adjustablity there. May have to drill a few new holes but drill bits are cheap.
