Hi Gang, on a new (2003) BF40 engine, during the break-in run, a light metallic rattling noise was occurring at 4000-5000 rpm. It sounded like something small was rattling, actually more of a tinking sound, against something. The sound goes away at about 3000 rpm. When we got back to the dock, I pulled the cover to see if anything was loose and able to vibrate but I didn't detect anything. My second thought was spark ping but honestly I have no idea what that sounds like in a 4 stoke outboard. Owners manual says to use a minimum of 86 Octane (87 is being used). Any folks here know what I'm talking about? If it is ping, will 89 octane take care of it? Thanks Gang.<br />MaxJ
