I have a 2001 Johnson 90 Ocean Pro pushing a new Sea Hunt 175 Dual Console. On the lake Sunday, it started bogging down. It took much longer to get up on plane and seemed sluggish overall. WOT is usually 43mph, but it barely hit 30. Motor sounded normal. Any ideas?

Hi Walt, sounds like you are having the same problem I am having with my '00 200 ocean pro, too much oil and fouling plugs. The factory took the "variable" out of the VRO and now it's 50:1 mix full time even at idle.I am not sure what to do about it yet but am working on it, will post if I find a fix. P.S. New plugs did temp. fix...Good Luck.

Thanks for the help. It fits. I bought the boat last fall and had the 20 hour service done in February. Only been in the water a few times since then, but have noticed that I seem to be adding more oil than expected. Still under warranty, so I'll at least call shop. If they have any insight I'll let you know.

Big Rod,

I talked to the Service Manager at the dealership and a respected private certified OMC techician. Neither thought it was the oiler. Nor was either willing to go out on a limb as to the probable cause. Everything from a clogged fuel filter to bad cylinder was suggested. Both thought carb problems rated as distinct possibility.

Bottom line: It will be Monday before either can look at it and if it is going to take more than half an hour to fix, it will be three weeks before they can get to it. I guess I'll check my warranty for "loss of fishing time" coverage.
